Paris School to be at Just Add Kids Expo
Paris School will have a promotional booth at the Just Add Kids Expo 2010 on Saturday, Jan. 30, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Burlington RV Superstore located at I-94 and Highway 20 in Sturtevant.

Committee for creative ways to sustain Paris School District to form
A committee to generate creative ideas of how to sustain the Paris School District will be forming early next year.
The need for such a group was agreed upon at a joint meeting of the School Board and representatives of the Paris Town Board and the Paris School Foundation that took place last week.
The committee will be open to interested community members and also will invite representatives from:

Paris School staffers go hippie for a day
If you were at Paris School yesterday morning you might have thought you were time-warped back to the'60s. But those hippies you might have seen in the hallway were really school reading specialist Margie Blair, teacher Josh Pye and district administrator Roger Gahart dressed as hippies as part of a day of rewards for students for reaching their goal in the Our School Cares About Reading program.

Paris YES Committee hosting school funding event
The Paris YES Committee is sponsoring a community-wide information and action event on school-funding reform Tuesday, Dec. 1 at 6:30 p.m. at Paris School, 1901 176th Ave. (Highway D).

Paris School Board certifies levy
The Paris School Board certified a total tax levy Monday that was largely the same as that approved by district electors at the August annual meeting.
The certified levy was $2,190,555 -- about $4,000 more than approved at the annual meeting.

Negotiations with the teachers union was on the agenda of the Thursday Paris School Board meeting basically just to update the board on the next negotiation session date.
But that didn''t stop one board member from expressing her disappointment with the initial proposal put forth by the teachers union.

Panthers go on the Prowl
The third annual Panther Prowl took place Saturday at Paris School.
The event, based around a walkathon, has evolved into a major fundraiser for the Paris School Organization, which funds projects to enhance the school experience. Funds raised this year are earmarked for further improvements to the school library and technology improvements.

The highly anticipated contract negotiations between teachers and the Paris School District are set to get started Wednesday.
The School Board and representatives of the teachers union will meet at 6:30 p.m. at the school. The agenda calls for both sides to exchange initial proposals and set a next meeting date. A closed session to discuss compensation is then scheduled.

The Paris Town Board will hold a special meeting tonight to meet with representatives of the Paris School Foundation.
The foundation has been seeking a meeting with the board to discuss possible donations from the town to the group to help with the Paris School District troubled finances. Town Board members have expressed willingness to start Paris School makes personnel moves

- Former teacher Judy Folkers was hired for a technology support position. She will typically work about 10 hours a week, said Roger Gahart, district administrator. Folkers is very familiar with the school's computer network, Gahart said, having been involved with it since the first computer came

While there are hundreds of projects included in the Education Building exhibit at the Kenosha County Fair, a few are selected each year for special recognition. Those winners gathered Sunday at the Education building in recognition of their awards.

Paris Town Board will wait until formal recognition for donation to school foundation
The Paris Town Board's lawyer is advising it to wait until the Paris Foundation is formally recognized by the IRS before making a donation.
In the meantime, Town Board members expressed willingness to start talking with the foundation's representatives about the school support group's aims and goals and how the town might be able to help.

Paris School had some long, tall -- and in theory tasty -- visitors today.
On the last day of classes, the Klement's Racing Sausages showed up to help celebrate the retirement of three Paris teachers:
- Judy Folkers 23 years.
- Carol Smith 26 years (a Paris alumnus).
- Clint Bennett 31 years (which is long enough to have been administrator Roger Gahart's middle school

Paris “yes” voters paint huge signs
Some 40 Paris School students and their parents spent Saturday afternoon at the LaBell home painting large "Vote Yes" signs.
The signs will be posted throughout the Paris School District Sunday, said Beth LaBell.
The school district is facing a tax levy referendum June 9. The referendum asks voters to authorize the district exceeding the state revenue limit for three years.
