Local units responding to help fight Delavan fire

Within the last 30 minutes (since about 2:15 p.m.), the Wheatland and Silver Lake Fire Departments have both been called to respond as mutual aid to help fight a fire in Delavan. Both departments are sending tenders. UPDATE 2:56 p.m. - Paris is also being called to this fire with a tender. UPDATE 6:55 P.M. -- The fire was at Mulligan's Bar. Paris seeking new town clerk

The Paris Town Board is looking for a new clerk/treasurer in the wake of the departure of Linda Terry for a job with another municipality. Tuesday, the board appointed Betty Price as deputy clerk and approved the deputy clerk taking over the duties of the clerk/treasurer while a decision is made regarding permanently filling the position. Town Chairman Virgil Gentz said several people, including Price, have applied for the clerk/treasurer job. The Paris Plan Commission and Town Board will host a public hearing on the town's Smart Growth plan on Thursday, Feb. 25 at 7 p.m., at the Town of Paris Safety Building, 16607 Burlington Road (Highway 142). Paris town officials are not ready yet to act on a noise ordinance that could address complaints about Great Lakes Dragaway. Units responding to crash with injuries in Paris

At 9:50 p.m., Paris fire and rescue units are responding to a report of an accident with injuries at Highways 45 and NN (45th Street) in Paris. The vehicle has apparently hit a tree. At least two people were in the vehicle. One is reporting a head injury. A deputy is on the scene as well. At 9:52 p.m., personnel at the scene are reporting the head injury is a deep laceration. Flight for Life responding to crash along Highway K

At 1:22 p.m., Flight for Life is responding to the scene of a three-vehicle crash in the 14100 block of Highway K along the Bristol/Paris border. Two vehicles are involved, with a third vehicle with some minor involvement. The Bristol Fire Department and sheriff's deputies are on the scene. Sheriff says Paris residents safe, offers burglary prevention tips

Sheriff David Beth assured Paris residents at Town Hall Monday evening that they do not have a level of crime to be concerned about, but also offered several tips those concerned about burglaries could use. The meeting with Beth was arranged by residents concerned about what they see as an increase in home break-ins in recent months. One family has had three break-ins recently. Paris Fire Department hosts open house

The Paris Fire Department kicked off Fire Prevention Week with an open house Sunday. Department personnel showed those attending around department equipment and eagerly answered questions. Occasional blasts of air horns and sirens also could be heard. Paris to revisit weedy memorial bricks

Paris town officials are going to look again at having weeds growing between the bricks of the town memorial taken care of by the contractor they previously hired to do the job. The Paris Fire Department will no longer find itself a victim of the conversion to digital TV broadcast signals. Cause of landfill fire undetermined

What started a fire at the Pheasant Run landfill Monday night has not been determined, the fire chief in charge of the scene said. Fire at Pheasant Run landfill

Firefighters from four departments responded to a report of a fire at the Pheasant Run landfill in Paris at about 10:12 p.m. Units from Paris, Bristol, Pleasant Prairie and Somers responded.
