Zuckowski Memorial Ice Derby coming to Benedict and Tombeau Feb. 6
The Mike Zukowski Memorial Ice Derby will take place on lakes Benedict and Tombeau, Saturday, Feb. 6 from 7 a.m. to noon.
Prizes for largest fish of the day -- walleye, bass and northern -- will be awarded. There will be raffle prizes as well, but raffle tickets are available at the event only.

Lake Shangri-la ice fishing derby this weekend
The Lake Shangri-la Property Owners Association will host its 41st annual ice fishing derby this Saturday and Sunday.
Headquarters for the event is the Community Center, 22112 121st St.
Food and refreshments will be served from 6 a.m. until closing both days. There will be hourly door prizes, special raffles and prizes for all members of the family.

Reps want Rock Lake electric motor rule to be official

Representatives of the Rock Lake Homeowners Association have long thought that only the use of electric boat motors on their body of water was an enforceable town law. The rule is even posted at the public boat launch on the lake.

The work to revise and update all the various documents that regulate lakes within Salem will continue today with a meeting of the relatively new Lakes Committee.

Why are boaters charged launch fees to use the Department of Natural Resources launch on Powers Lake and not people who park in the same lot to ice fish on the lake?

After two years of research, the Lake Benedict/Tombeau Lake Management District has come up with a level for declaring no wake conditions on Lake Benedict -- 828.8 feet above sea level.
The level was unanimously approved Thursday by the Randall Town Board for inclusion in a revised set of lake-related town ordinances. Supervisor Ken Mangold was absent.

A committee aimed at dealing with issues related to Salem's nine lakes will have it first meeting next week.

The first step toward extending wake allowed hours for boaters on Hooker Lake was narrowly approved by the Salem Town Board Monday night.
The ordinance, approved by a 3 to 2 vote, would extend wake allowed hours just on Hooker Lake to a half hour before sundown on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Wakes are not allowed after 7 p.m. the other days of the week.

Wrench recognized for work with Twin Lakes protection district
Gerald Wrench was recognized with a special award for his work with the Twin Lakes Rehabilitation and Protection District at the group's annual meeting and budget hearing Saturday morning at Wilmot High School.

Advice to large pier owners: Get it grandfathered!
If you have a pier that's outside of new Department of Natural Resources size guidelines, get it grandfathered -- if possible - now.
