Western Kenosha County residents join Polar Plungers

Probably very few people would think today was a good day for a swim. But jump into the cold waters of Lake Andrea many people still did today during Special Olympics Polar Plunge. Perhaps it was because of the cause behind the annual event. Money raised by the Polar Plunge help fund local Special Olympics programs, which provide individuals with cognitive disabilities year-round sports training and competition. Those who buy and animal at the Kenosha County Fair get the benefit of a good meal -- or many meals -- for the money they put out. Salem college student wins West of the I fair contest

skittles-closeupHundreds tried, but none were as close to guessing the number of candy pieses in a bottle at the West of the I booth in the commercial building at the Kenosha County Fair as Becky Semke of Salem.

Kenosha County Fair 2009 Junior Fair Merit Award winners have been announced.  The awards are given for outstanding junior fair projects outside of beef, prok, sheep, swine, poultry and rabbits. Demo derby action from the County Fair

The dual demolition derbies are the highlight of the Sunday entertainment at the Kenosha County Fair and always draw a big crowd. Pie auction coverage

The pie auction at the Kenosha County Fair raised $14,000 mostly with baked goods,  a couple of quilts, some other miscellaneous items and a lot of generous bidders. It took place Satruday evening in the auction barn. The betting can get competitive, but it's all for a good cause -- helping to maintain the buildings on the fairgrounds.
