Take the Polar Plunge Saturday to support Special Olympics
People tough enough to brave the icy Wisconsin waters in February -- and those who aren't but still want to support a good cause -- will be participating in the Special Olympics Polar Plunge this Saturday, Feb. 27 at Lake Andrea in Pleasant Prairie.

Central DECA and FBLA to host rummage sale to raise money for charities
Central High School's DECA and FBLA student organizations will be holding a "Winter Wonderland Rummage Sale" to raise money for March of Dimes and MDA.
The rummage sale will be on Feb. 13, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Donations will be accepted Feb. 8 through 12 and can be dropped off at Central High School's All Purpose Room.

Wonder how far the $2,550 in pennies, nickels, quarters, dime and bills Alyson Davis' fifth grade class collected will go toward helping people in earhquake sricken Haiti?
If the money were all to be used for food, at 30 cents a meal, it could feed 8,500 people there, the class was told by Red Cross representative Kurt Worden.

Students in Alyson Davis' fifth grade class at Salem School have found a fun way to help earthquake victims in Haiti and get their whole school -- and perhaps the community beyond -- involved.

Daybreak seeking volunteers
Daybreak -- a group activity program for people with Alzheimer’s Disease or related dementia-- is seeking volunteers who enjoy spending time with older adults.
Enthusiastic, creative volunteers are used to enrich Daybreak's daily programming. Volunteer hours are flexible.

Salem School students in Anne Woodward’s third grade class recently tied blankets for the class’ annual donation to Women and Children’s Horizons.
Adult volunteers cut the ties, and teams of students completed 10 blankets for the community service project. Each blanket was delivered in a decorated bag with a handmade card.

Central High School's tennis coaches Pat and Paul Brings were recently recognized by the School Board for their contributions to the school's fledgling tennis program.
The couple, who started the school's tennis programs and also started a community tennis organization, worked with the United States Tennis Association to apply for a grant to help build facilities, said Kris Allison, athletic director. The school received $35,000 towards its new court, which are under construction.

Mattel Toy Store in Wilmot contributes to Shop With A Cop
The Mattel Toy Store in Wilmot was one of the sponsors of this year's Shop With A Cop program hosted by the Antioch Police Department.

A large group of volunteers gathered at Holy Cross Catholic Church-Wilmot for The Sharing Center's annual Thanksgiving dinner meal distribution.
From 6 a.m. until just before 10, people who had adopted a family for the holiday brought in the makings of a holiday feast. The supplies were taken into the church's gymnasium and arranged efficiently by number.
Then at around 10 a.m., the food started going back out again, as families that had been adopted came in to receive their holdiay meal.

Donations sought for injured assistant Twin Lakes fire chief
A fund and a benefit event have been set up to help Twin Lakes Fire Department Assistant Fire Chief Al Stolp, who was seriously injured in an accident last month.

The Sharing Center has announced changes in its dropoff and pickup locations this year for its Adopt-a-Family program. Please note the following:
Thanksgiving
- Dropoff and Pickup Location: Holy Cross Catholic Parish-Wilmot, (at the intersection of Highways C and B).
- Dropoff 6 to 9 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 21.
- Pickup: 10 a.m. to Noon on Saturday, Nov. 21.
Christmas
- Dropoff and Pickup Location: Holy Cross
Soup tasting event to benefit west of the I seniors
Meals on Wheels and the Westosha Community Center along with their sponsor PATS Services Inc. will present Bowls 'n' Bakers Nov. 11 at Bristol Oaks Country Club.
The event, centered on a soup tasting contest featuring your favorite soups from area restaurants, raises funds for Western Kenosha County senior services.
Tickets are $15. You get to vote for your favorite soup and receive a commemorative soup mug.
