Twin Lakes may break out library levy on tax bills

Twin Lakes is considering breaking out the amount levied for its contribution to the Community Library on future tax bills. The village does not control the amount of the library levy. Instead, it is set by a formula in state law. Former library director dismissed from job she was demoted to

Mary Ellen Close, who was demoted from director of the Community Library to circulation clerk last fall, has now been dismissed from the library staff altogether. Close was dismissed last week, said Ken Mangold, Library Board member from Randall. "Her services were no longer required," Mangold said. He would not elaborate on why Close was let go. Close's last position was one of six recently vacant positions that will not be filled, Mangold said. Close was removed from her position as director

Community Library to offer watercolor course

Learning the art of watercolor will be the topic of workshops offered by the Community Library Tuesdays in January. Participants will learn to paint landscape and floral designs with local artist and teacher Tina Fincher. The class will meet Tuesdays, Jan. 5, 12, 19, and 26 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Community Library, 24615 89th St., Salem. Community Library announces holiday closures

The Community Library in Salem, Silver Lake and Twin Lakes will be closed on the following days in December and  January:
  • Thursday, Dec. 24, in observance of Christmas Eve.
  • Friday, Dec. 25, in observance of Christmas Day.
  • Thursday, Dec. 31, in observance of New Year’s Eve.
  • Friday, Jan. 1, in observance of New Year’s Day.

Library to host tin ornament workshop

The Community Library will host a Mexican tin ornaments workshop. Participants will create Mexican tin art ornaments. Patterns will be provided or participants may create their own. Finding Silver Lake short of both of its representatives to the Community Library Board, village President Roger Johnson was looking volunteers Wednesday night.
