The next CHS Community Band concert will be at 6 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 29, at Hansen Park, in Bristol. If there's inclement weather, the concert will be held in the Central High School cafetorium. CHS Community Band concert coverage

The CHS Community Band gave it's first ever concert today at Senior Citizen Park, on the shore of  Paddock Lake. The band is made up of about 35 high school students, incoming freshmen and some recent graduates. Central High School gets updates on building project

The Central High School Board dealt with several aspects of its ongoing construction project at its Tuesday meeting:
  • The district will wait to request bids for a restroom building it needs to build as part of its tennis courts/JV baseball complex in hopes of lowering the cost. Originally, the school planned to build a combination restroom/concessions/storage building for $135,000. That building was cut due to cost

Longtime Wheatland official Don Smitz dies

Don Smitz, 74, who served Wheatland and Kenosha County in a number of government capacities, died Thursday. An obituary is available at the Haase Derrick Lockwood Funeral Home website. Paddock Lake to give Central HS more time for tennis restrooms and path

The Paddock Lake Village Board approved a Plan Commission recommendation that will in effect give Central High School three years to complete the construction of a restroom facility and six-foot wide path along Highway 83 west of the school's athletic facilities there. Central Falcons baseball team hosted the Broncos of Union Grove Tuesday in a Southern Lakes Conference tilt. The Broncos jumped out to a quick lead in the first inning by successfully being patient against Central starter Austin Damaschke. Southern Lakes Football Conference combine coverage

Wilmot High School hosted the Southern Lakes Conference Football Combine Saturday at Frank Bucci Field. Participants were weighed and measured for height and then put through a series of running/skills tests before weight lifting. All participants were video taped for a DVD that will be made available to college scouts and to the student athletes themselves. Some Central High School students displayed how education is figuring into their educations at the school's first Technology Showcase Friday. The event was held during lunch periods in the school's cafetorium. Students explained to those interested how they had used technology in their studies at Central. Central free from Highway 50, 83/75 intersection upgrades; hears other project updates

The Central High School Board got several construction project related updates at its Tuesday meeting, including:
  • The district has heard from the state Department of Transportation that the school officially will not be responsible for upgrading the Highway 50 and Highway 83/75 intersection because of the school's recent facilities expansion project. The state had been saying the school's plan to divert all traffic to a new access road on Highway 83

Central girls soccer team meets Wilmot in first game for new stadium

The Central High School girls scocer teams were the first to break-in the new multi-use stadium with junior varsity and varsity contests Monday versus rival Wilmot. Paddock Lake has set a special meeting for Thursday to reconsider issuing a temporary certificate of compliance for Central High School's multi-sport stadium. The certificate was rejected by the board on April 21, the last regular meeting citing concerns over several safety items. Imagine Kenosha held their Inaugural Launching Event recently at Strawberry Creek Clubhouse. Central High School has selected a new principal to replace retiring Thomas Baba. A contract with Lisa Albrecht was approved Tuesday. Albrecht most recently was an associate principal at South Milwaukee High School, which has a student population of 1,200.
