Bristol may decide on starting 4K by next month
The Bristol School District is still considering starting a 4-year-old kindergarten program, and a decision may be imminent.
District administrator Gale Ryczek said at Tuesday's School Board meeting that a decision on starting the program should be made by next month's meting.
"It's caused a lot of conversation," Ryczek said.
There is support amongst Bristol parents for the program and the opinions of administrators at districts that have 4K are also favorable, Ryczek said.

Bristol taking fewer open enrollment students this year
Bristol School will be accepting a smaller group of open enrollment students this year than in recent years.
Tuesday night, the School Board approved accepting 21 students. In recent years, the district has often accepted double that number, said district administrator Gale Ryczek said.
The reason for the lower amount is the building is nearing its optimal capacity, Ryczek said.

Bristol School to host kindergarten registration
Bristol Grade School will be registering kindergarten students for the 2010-2011 school year from Monday through Thursday, Feb. 1-4 from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. in the Main Office.

Bristol Shootout: Lakewood and Randall champs
Today was the final day of the Bristol Shootout grade school A and B teams boys basketball tournament at Bristol School.
Lakewood took the A team bracket championship.

Chicago Bear Roberto Garza visits Bristol School
Bristol School student David Hunt introduced a new friend to his school Tuesday -- Chicago Bear offensive lineman Roberto Garza.
David was selected as a winner in the NFL's Bring a Player to School contest. David was entered in the contest by his father, said Bristol district administrator Gale Ryczek.
Garza talked to virtually the whole student body and staff at an assembly, said Principal Jeff Terry.

The Bristol School Board meeting tonight was interrupted three times by the power flicking off and then on again. Don't know if that was just at the school or elsewhere as well.

Bristol Drama Dept. presents The Princess and the Pea
The Bristol School Drama Department presented "The Princess and the Pea" at the school this weekend.
There was a performance Saturday night and again at noon Sunday after the Breakfast with Santa fundraiser for the fine arts programs at the school.

Bristol fine arts to present play, breakfast with Santa, auction and bake sale this weekend
The Bristol Fine Arts Department will present “The Princess & The Pea,” and a Breakfast with Santa, silent auction and bake sale this weekend:
Show times for “The Princess & The Pea,” are Sat., Dec. 5, 6 p.m. and Sun., Dec. 6, noon.

The Salem Booster Club hosted a preseason girls basketball tournament Saturday.
Playing were Salem, Randall, Bristol and Wheatland. Salem defeated Randall in the championship game.

Safety Town Class of 2009 graduates
Another class of future kindergarten pupils is a little more aware of safety thanks to Kathy Harris Safety Town.
The class of 2009 graduated Friday at Bristol School.
Through the course the students learn about a number of safety topics, such as traffic, bikes, being a pedestrians, strangers and the school bus. Jill Wagner leads the local lessons for the program, which is sponsored here by Westosha Kiwanis.

Bristol families to walk instead of sell
Bristol School families used to selling food items for the PTO's major fundraiser will be asked to go for a walk instead.
Angie Nelson, PTA president, gave a report to the School Board Tuesday night about changing from a food sale fundraiser to a walkathon, modeled on a successful such event at Paris School.
Paris raised as much as $25,000 with its events, Nelson said.

Boy Scout Troop 385 and Cub Scout Pack 385 (Bristol, Brighton, Providence and Paris schools) will be hosting a pancake, egg and sausage breakfast from 7 a.m. to noon, Saturday, at Bristol School.
The event also will include a silent auction and bake sale. Auction items include sporting event tickets, baskets and more.

Bristol bike safety deemed success despite rain
The rain likely cut down the number of people who decided to ride their two-wheelers out to Bristol School this morning for the town's first ever bike safety day and registration.
But despite the less than perfect pedaling weather, the town had registered some 20 bikes before the first hours was up, public safety Officer Mark Niederer said.
"We'll have it again next spring," Niederer said, undaunted by the misfortune of the wet weather.

Bristol to host bike rodeo, safety day
Next weekend, Bristol residents will have a chance to refine their cycling safety knowledge and maybe make their bike easier to recover if it ever goes missing.
The Bristol Department of Public Safety will host its first annual bike rode and safety day April 25.
