Holocaust survivor speaks to Brighton students

Daniels, Eckhart and Smitz inducted into Central Wall of Success

Central High School inducted three more alumni into its Wall of Success at a ceremony Friday at the school. This year's inductees are:
  • Michael Daniels, Class of 1983, and a career employee of the US Department of Agriculture.
  • Diane Eckhart, Class of  1965, who taught at Brighton School for over 40 years, retiring last year.
  • Don Smitz, Class of 1955, owner of Smitz Construction and a long time Wheatland and county official.

Central HS students build cabinets for schools

This past semester, two Central High School seniors, Nick Abel and Gary Kreuger, produced three cabinets for local grade schools through the Technology Education Department. Brighton School schedules kindergarten registration

Brighton Elementary School has scheduled kindergarten screening for Tuesday, March 9, for children who will be 5 years old on or before Sept. 1. Registration for kindergarten screening will be March 1-5 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at which time appointments will be set for the screening. Bristol Shootout: Lakewood and Randall champs

Today was the final day of the Bristol Shootout grade school A and B teams boys basketball tournament at Bristol School.

Lakewood took the A team bracket championship.

Randall took the B team bracket championship. Here are today's results, supplied by Salem B Coach Jim Valentine:

A teams

  • Lakewood (first) defeated Williams Bay (2nd) 46 to 24.
  • Salem (third) defeated host Bristol (fourth) 27 to 6.
  • Brighton (fifth) defeated Trevor  (sixth) 39 to 28.

B teams

  • Randall (first)

Education Building awards announced

While there are hundreds of projects included in the Education Building exhibit at the Kenosha County Fair, a few are selected each year for special recognition. Those winners gathered Sunday at the Education building in recognition of their awards. Here are the education Building's Best of the Best for 2009:
  • Pre-kindergarten: Tyee Simek, Riverview School, and Cantin Schiler, Westosha.
  • Kindergarten: Josh Donnellan, Wheatland Center School, and Leonardo Cordova, Paris School.
  • First and second grades

Scouts hosting breakfast May 9 at Bristol School

Boy Scout Troop 385  and Cub Scout Pack 385 (Bristol, Brighton, Providence  and Paris schools) will be hosting a pancake, egg and sausage breakfast from 7 a.m. to noon, Saturday, at Bristol School. The event also will include a silent auction and bake sale. Auction items include sporting event tickets, baskets and more.
