Units responding to crash with injuries in Brighton

At 3:48 p.m., sheriff's deputies, Salem Fire/Rescue and Silver Lake Rescue are responding to the scene of a crash with injuries at Highways JB and B, Brighton. St. Francis Family Fun Day this Saturday

St. Francis Xavier Church in Brighton, will be holding its annual Family Fun Day and Auction on Saturday, Aug. 7, from 11 a.m. until midnight. There will be burgers, brats, chicken sandwiches and other refreshments. Expect to find the following exciting events:
  • Kids games from 11 a.m.  to 3 p.m.
  • Bingo from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.
  • Baggo Tournament starts at 1 p.m., please register

Drowning victim identified

The man who drowned Monday in a pond at a Brighton campground has been identified as Guillermo Acosta, 37, of Kenosha. More information on the incident available here.

Salem Fire/Rescue responding to report of person who was submerged in pond

At 3 p.m., Salem Fire/Rescue personnel are responding tothe 22000 block of 45th Street (Highway NN), Brighton, for a person who was underwater in a pond and is not breathing and is not conscious. UPDATE 3:05 p.m. -- Scanner transmissions indicate CPR was performed on the person and they are now breathing, but still unconscious. UPDATE 3:24 p.m. -- Some Salem Fire/Rescue units leaving scene. Semi, car crash at Highways 75 and K

At 1:52 p.m., Salem Fire/Rescue is responding to the report of a multi-vehicle crash at Highways 75 and K at the Brighton-Salem line. Dispatch reports the crash involves a semi-truck and a car. Registration for County Open golf tournament under way

If it's the Saturday before Father's Day then it's Kenosha County Dairy Breakfast day.

This year's event was held at Crane Dairy in Brighton on Saturday. Typical attendance is over 2,000 for the annual event. Golf leagues forming at county courses

New golf leagues for the 2010 golf season are forming at teh two county owned/operated golf courses. These leagues will be open to the public and are not restricted to Kenosha County residents. Pools will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m., Tuesday for the Spring Election, which will fill county board, municipal and school board seats among others. There are contests for the following seats of West of the I interest:

  • District 24, which includes Silver Lake and parts of Brighton, Salem and Wheatland.
  • District 23, which includes Paddock Lake and part of Salem.

At 1:25 p.m., units from Salem Fire/Rescue are responding to the report of a field on fire in the 29800 block of 41st in Brighton. Man charged in Brighton home invasion pleads guilty to some charges

One of the men charged in connection with the shooting death of Robin Leydel and the invasion of Leydel's Brighton home in October has pleaded guilty to some of the charges against him. Court records show Brian D. Suckecki, 37, of Twin Lakes,  has pleaded guilty to:
  • Felony murder-armed robbery.
  • Armed robbery.
  • Felon in possession of a  firearm.

Two car crash at Highways 75 and JB

At 5:09 p.m., deputies and Salem Fire/Rescue are responding to the scene of an two-care crash at Highway 75 and JB in Brighton. Involved are a silver Neon and a silver Taurus. At 11:19 a.m., units from Salem Fire/Rescue are responding to a rollover accident on Highway 75, just north of Highway PH in Brighton. The Dodge SUV reportedly had a male driver and three children passengers. The children are reportedly out of the car and complaining of unspecific pain. Murder suspects in court

Preliminary hearings for the four men charged in the murder of a Brighton resident got under way Wednesday. The hearings were continued until Nov. 12. Charged with first-degree intentional homicide and other crimes in the shooting death of  Robin Leydel of Brighton are:
  • John M. Navigato, 50, of Bristol.
  • Brian D. Suchecki, 37, of Twin Lakes.
