Additional Merit Awards announced
A ceremony recognizing all Merit Award winners at the 2010 Kenosha County Fair was held on Sunday at 6 p.m., outside the exhibit buildings.

HCE and Kenosha County 4-H to sponsor Community Sewing Day
Community Sewing Days will be sponsored by the Kenosha County Association for Home & Community Education and Kenosha County 4-H in July.
The Community Service project is open to sewers of all skill levels. Lap blankets, waker bags and adult bibs will be made and then distributed throughout the community.

4-H sewing project makes items for Africa and Iraq service people
Kenosha County 4-H Sewing Project members attending a countywide sewing meeting Saturday made projects that helped their skills while also benefiting others.
One group sewed pillow cases that will be sent to service people in Iraq.
The other group made dresses that will be sent to Africa via Nancy's Notions in Beaver Dam.
Both groups met at the Pringle Nature Center in Bristol Woods County Park, Bristol.
Kenosha County 4-H hosts first Pinewood Derby
Kenosha County 4-H hosted its first Pinewood Derby Monday night.
Participants and spectators filled the hearing room at the County Center in Bristol. Participants were broken into several classes by school grade. There also was a division for adults. Over 140 cars went out, John de Montmollin, youth and family educator with the county UW-Extension, said.

We were at Kenosha County 4-H's first ever pinewood derby race Monday night at the Kenosha County Center.

The Kenosha County 4-H Fishing Project will be hosting its annual raffle with the addition of a spaghetti dinner on Feb. 27 at the Conservation Club of Kenosha County, 21001 85th St., Bristol.
The dinner will take place between 3 and 6 p.m. Tickets are $4 for adults, $3 for kids 5 to 12 and free for those under 5. The dinner includes homemade deserts.

The gymkana horse show took place Sunday morning at the Kenosha County Fair.
Pie auction coverage
The pie auction at the Kenosha County Fair raised $14,000 mostly with baked goods, a couple of quilts, some other miscellaneous items and a lot of generous bidders.
It took place Satruday evening in the auction barn. The betting can get competitive, but it's all for a good cause -- helping to maintain the buildings on the fairgrounds. And there's plenty of good fun too.

Herda award goes to Jessica Meyer
Each year, the beef project gives the William Herda Memorial Award to a deserving member of the project. This year's winner of the Herda Award is Jessica Meyer. Daily Crow: Participation activities are hands-on fun
If you're a doer instead of a watcher, than you will want to seek out the Kenosha County Fair's participation activities:
- Are you a scavenger? On Thursday morning there will be a scavenger hunt for children 12 years and under.

Two county 4-H day camp at Paddock Lake
4-Hers from Racine and Kenosha counties got together for fun, games, swimming and crafts at 4-H Day Camp Thursday.
The activity, drawing participants from Kenosha and Racine 4-H Clubs, took place at Old Settler's Park in Paddock Lake.
Kids in grades kindergarten through third grade got an early start, begining at 8 a.m. and staying busy until just before the rain started coming down at 3 p.m… Continue reading
