Swearing in of Twin Lakes PD K9 Rex (VIDEO)

The Twin Lakes Police Department has a tradition of new police officers being sworn in by the village administrator at a Village Board meeting.

The fact that the latest addition to the force walks on four legs did not change that tradition.

Rex, with his officer handler Joseph Patla at his side, was sworn in Monday at the Committee of the Whole meeting by village administrator Jennifer Frederick. Rex came to the village after finishing training on Oct. 25.

There were a couple of changes to the typical routine. Patla had to raise Rex’ right paw for him. The oath language included a passage about not being swayed by “yummy dog treats.” Patla had to sign the oath for Rex and there was no badge pinning ceremony.

In the following video, Patla introduces Rex to those in attendance, followed by the oath ceremony:

Kudos to those who took advantage of a great opportunity to pursue a K-9 for the department and for all those who supported this effort.
