Luisa’s Restaurant in Wheatland will re-open Wednesday, Oct. 11, marking the local iconic business’ recovery from the flood of 2017.

The pizza and Italian restaurant will resume its normal hours of 4 to 9 p.m., Tuesday through Sunday, said owner Paul De Luisa.

“I’m excited and nervous at the same time,” De Luisa said.

The restaurant has been closed since mid July, when in the wake of record rain the property was inundated with flood water. The nearby Fox River set a new record crest by over two feet.

Since then De Luisa has been working to reopen. And that effort will pay off Wednesday.

Customers will notice a remodeled interior in the dining  and bar areas. De Luisa is working on incorporating some old windows and historic photos of the property and neighborhood into further decor to be installed later.

De Luisa said he was touched by the support he received from the community during the time he was working to bring his restaurant back.

“It was more than I ever imagined,” De Luisa said. “Everyone reached out to me.”

De Luisa singled out for praise Brian Boeckenstedt of Bella Vita Banquets, Mark Rogers of Benders, Dean Fryda of NetLogix and John Capelli of TraXside Skating for their help with Luisa’s recovery, but said there were many others who helped too.

The restaurant lost only one staff member due to the closure. De Luisa praised Doreen Kamp for helping to bring the staff together for the re-opening.

Luisa’s is located at Highway 50 and 317th Avenue in Wheatland. Phone is 262-537-4795. More info and menu at www.luisaspizza.co.
