Fox River continues to recede; down below last record

It illustrates just how historic Thursday’s crest of the Fox River at the New Munster gauge of 17.47 feet to say Sunday, three days later, the river has finally fallen to just below the last record crest for that gauge.

At 8 p.m., Sunday the river was measured at 15.08 feet, a little below the June 2008 mark of 15.2.

The last time Highway 50 was closed at the Fox River bridge was in April 2013, when the river crested at 14.5 feet.

The National Weather Service forecast for the river calls for the level to be still above flood stage of 11 feet a week from today.

Sunday night, Monday, Monday night and Tuesday are forecast to be dry, with less than 50 percent chances of rain appearing in the forecast Tuesday night through Saturday.
