Heidie Dunn appointed to Wheatland J1 School Board

The Wheatland J1 School Board has appointed Heidie Dunn to fill its open seat.

Dunn replaces Mary Ochoa-Petersen, whose resignation was accepted at the March 23 board meeting. Ochoa-Petersen had been a member of the board for eight years.

From the district’s announcement:

The Wheatland J1 School Board has selected Heidie Dunn to fill the open seat on the School Board. After an interview process the board unanimously voted to appoint Mrs. Dunn at it’s meeting on May 3rd. “Heidie’s varied experiences and passion for education will be a great addition to the school board. We would like to thank the other candidates for their interest in serving the Wheatland Community. We were fortunate to have a group of highly qualified candidates. While that is great for the health of the district, it made the selection process extremely difficult,” said Board President Chris Serak. Mrs. Dunn’s first school board meeting will be the regular May meeting. The May Board meeting will be rescheduled and subsequently noticed for May 31st due to an unrelated scheduling conflict. Mrs. Dunn reacted to the news with the following, “I am honored to serve the Wheatland community in the capacity of a School Board member, since I believe that education offers the best pathway to success for all children. As a community member, I am proud of the tremendous strides the district has taken in the past few years, and am excited to be a member of a team moving forward that will help continue that ‘Flight to Excellence’.”
