Twin Lakes yard waste and recycling center relocating; sticker to be required

tl-logoThe Twin Lakes yard waste and recycling center will move and a sticker showing that users are residents will now be required, the village announced this week.

The move of the center to the public works facility on Burlington Avenue will make the system more efficient for public works employees. Village officials believe the stickers will allow them to crack down on non resident use of the facility, which should reduce cost. There will be no cost for obtaining the stickers for residents.

The yard waste and recycling center opens April 1.

From a press release about the changes:

The Twin Lakes Yard Waste & Recycling Center is being relocated this year to the Public Works facility at 800 Burlington Avenue. The relocation was discussed and approved during the 2017 budget workshops last September. At the old facility on Industrial Drive, Public Works personnel were tasked with moving the materials up to the Public Works facility weekly. Modifications have been made to the Public Works site to allow for public access and direct drop off by residents, saving over 100 hours of staff time. The Yard Waste & Recycling Center will open for the season at its new location on April 1. Hours for drop off will remain unchanged: Wednesdays 10am-2pm, Saturdays 8am-3pm, and Sundays 10am-2pm. The site will continue to have an E-Waste dumpster for all electronics without refrigerant. Also new this year: Residents will now need a vehicle sticker in order to enter the Yard Waste & Recycling Center. Vehicle stickers will be distributed at Village Hall- 108 E Main Street- at no charge upon residency verification. Commercial use of the drop off site will continue to be prohibited. Village officials decided to crack down on non-resident usage of the site in order to minimize costs affiliated with the yard waste- including chipping, which has historically run thousands of dollars each year. Vehicle stickers will be available for pick up beginning March 20 during Village Hall hours (Mon-Fri 9am-5pm). The Yard Waste & Recycling Center will continue to be staffed. Residents will need to stop at the entrance for the attendant to inspect materials to be dumped and residence sticker before being permitted access. Staff will not be able to assist in unloading material from vehicles at the new site. As always, wood chips and mulch are available for free to Twin Lakes residents. Residents can pick up the materials during Yard Waste Center hours. Items accepted: seaweed, grass clippings, leaves, brush, twigs, larger cut wood- up to 6” in diameter and 8’ in length. Items NOT collected at the Yard Waste & Recycling Center: chemicals, paints, batteries, electronics with refrigerants, trash, metal/plastic recyclables, bulk items. For more information, residents may call Village Hall: 262-877-2858.
