Bong State Recreation Area announces October programs

Richard Bong State Recreation Area announces the following October programs.:

Saturday, Oct. 1 — Watercolor Workshop — Join artist Paula Touhey to learn and practice the basics of watercolor painting using the flowers of fall for inspiration.  Best for ages 10 and up.  Meet at the Visitor Center.  Please call to pre-register (262) 878-5601.   9am-12pm. 

Saturday, Oct. 8 — Survival 101 — Think you could survive outdoors?   Join veteran and hunter education instructor Jerry Costabile to discover how to prepare for an outdoor adventure.  Pick up some basic survival techniques and learn how to handle the unexpected!   Meet at the Visitor Center.  1-3pm.

Thursday, Oct. 13 — Knee-high Naturalist — Bring your 3-5 year old to this fun and involving nature program.  This month search for some SPECTACULAR SPIDERS! Be prepared to go outside.  Please call to register or to cancel (262) 878-5601. Meet at the Visitor Center.  10-11:30am.

Saturday, Oct. 15 — Eco-Halloween Hike — You are invited to see who has “Wings in the Woods” at this non-scary, family event.  Enjoy jack-o-lanterns, Halloween nature skits, campfires, games and crafts.  Refreshments for sale. You may arrive anytime between 6:30pm and 8:00pm to sign up for a hike.  Hikes take about a half-hour.  Dress for the weather, you may be outside awhile.  Meet at Shelter #1.  New this year:  $2 fee per person (ages 3+) payable at registration.   6:30-8:30 pm.

Saturday, Oct. 22 — Peek into the Past — Check out aerial photos and maps to see how the land at Bong has changed.  Discover how to read the history and uses of land over time.   We’ll go outside to compare the past and the present. Best for ages 10 and up.   Meet at Visitor Center. 9-11am.

Saturday, Oct. 29 — Crane Watch — Drop in to visit Tom Lajiness and to watch for cranes as they come to roost for the evening at the lake.  Meet at Shelter #4, at the Beach.   6-7 pm.
