Western Kenosha County fire departments were among those that assisted Somers Fire and Rescue in fighting a barn fire early this morning.

Sheriff’s deputies and Somers fire units were first on the scene in the 7100 block of 38th Street, finding the barn fully engulfed in flames, a Kenosha County Sheriff’s Department spokesman said. The property owner advised the barn was filled with 5,000 bales of straw, farm equipment and recreational vehicles.

Fire departments from Somers, Randall, Paris, Caledonia, Zion, Kansasville, Burlington, and the Racine Fire Bells also responded.

Highway S/Washington Road was closed for a time this morning.

The cause of the fire at this time is unknown and an investigation is being conducted, said Sgt. Eric Klinkhammer, KCSD public information officer.
