Kenosha County Executive Jim Kreuser’s 2016 state of the county address featured discussion of the Paris-Somers intergovernmental and the developing Salem business park.

Kreuser delivered the address at a meeting of the Kenosha County Board of Supervisors Tuesday evening in Kenosha.

Kresuer addressed the intergovernmental agreement between Paris and Somers that has Paris allow 2,500 acres to be annexed into Somers. Somers and Paris will share new revenue from the annexed area, while Paris will fund to loan funds. Kenosha has objected to the agreement.

Kreuser had the following to say about the IGA:

For almost a couple of years, there have been meetings with Somers Town/Village/Paris/KABA. It is important that we support the Town of Paris and the Village of Somers with their new Intergovernmental Agreement and work with the City. The end game is the highest and best use development for Kenosha County. Economic development should not be held back merely because of political boundaries. Kenosha Mayor-elect Antaramian, who is getting sworn in right about now, and I have met and will continue to meet with Paris and Somers to reach a resolve on the issues. This issue is about economic development and creating jobs for our children and grandchildren. Political lines should not dampen the economic development fire that is burning in Kenosha County.”

Kreuser had the following to say about the Salem development:

Working with KABA and the Town of Salem, the new Salem Business Park is underway. At the request of the Town and Vice Chair Breunig, one of our county 2016 Highway Projects will result in the resurfacing of County Highway C to State Highway 83 to County Highway JF, and will make improvements to the access area for the new business park.”

Here is copy of the text of Kreuser’s address, as supplied by his office.

  1. Perplexed in Paris says:

“Economic development should not be held back merely because of political boundaries”……..really Mr. Kreuser? Then why not “develop” all of Paris instead of a small strip of land? You know, to create “jobs for our children and grandchildren”. Who cares if the land owners and citizens of Paris want to maintain their rural identity and way of life? Apparently Mr. Kreuser doesn’t. He helped “sneak” this proposal through in record fashion time, knowing full well the city was being excluded from the process. The only “fires burning” right now are coming from those of us in Paris who are “smouldering” as we were dragged feet first into this inferno. I say toss this IGA paperwork into the fire, and “fire” Kreuser as well. Mr. Stoner and Somers are laughing all the way to the bank, at our expense.

  2. Paris Resident says:

I’d be curious to know how many residents of Paris would actually get any of the jobs that the County Executive is boasting about? We have to give up our land and way of life to provide jobs for people that don’t live in Paris? That’s a novel approach. I’d at least like to have SOME say in it….it appears our board does not want to listen to those of us who have some apprehension of how this will affect us.
