Bristol Village Board passes resolution for lower speed limit on Highway Q

The Bristol Village Board Monday passed a resolution urging the county to reduce the speed limit on Highway Q from 55 to 45 mph between Highway U and Highway 45 in the village.

Since Highway Q is a county highway, the village does not have the power to change the speed limit itself.

In addition to the lower speed limit, the village’s resolution asks for the installation of “flashing signs of Hill Blocking View where appropriate on Hwy Q from Hwy. U west to Hwy 45.”

The resolution passed 4-0 with Trustee Carolyn Owens absent.

Earlier this month, the board received a petition asking for the change signed by over 100 residents. That petition said in part:

School buses full of children are traveling this road and the hills blocking views coming up upon a stopped bus is very dangerous at 55 mph. It has also become increasingly difficult to back out of driveways. We are concerned for the safety of the families living along HW Q and are asking that the speed limit be lowered as soon as possible.”
