Nick Penge, of Salem and Boy Scout Troop 329, was awarded the rank of Eagle Scout on Jan. 9.

Eagle Scout is the highest rank that can be attained in the Scouting program and represents years of hard work and dedication, leadership to others and service to the community. On average only 5 percent of young men enrolled in the Scouting program attain this goal.

Nick joined scouting as a young boy 11 years ago and spent his first 5 years as a Cub Scout with Pack

328 in Salem before graduating to Troop 329 in Silver Lake in the 5th grade. Over the last six years Nick has logged almost 90 nights of camping, 36 merit badges, and over 60 service hours to his

community, as well as being voted by his peers to the role of one of the troops two assistant Senior Patrol Leaders in four of the last six years. Nick will now transition to becoming a Junior Assistant Scoutmaster with the troop as he continues in Scouting for the next few years providing leadership and assistance to the younger scouts looking to achieve their goals.

For Nick’s final test of leadership, known as an Eagle Project, Nick constructed a sand box pavilion for the Westosha Head Start program in Wilmot, which will allow the children to play outside in a shaded area during warm weather.
