The Twin Lakes Area Chamber and Business Association won approval from the Twin Lakes Village Board Monday to drive tent stakes into the Lance Park parking lot during this year’s Libertyfest.

The chamber sought permission for the stakes to accommodate a larger tent that could fit a larger crowd and stage for a name act this year. Chamber officials have said they are looking to drive up attendance at the festival by bringing in a more known act on Saturday night. Having a larger tent will ensure the performance can take place regardless of weather, thus protecting any money the chamber uses to hire the band.

The chamber also is pursuing a small carnival for the festival.

When the need to drive some stakes into the asphalt parking lot for the larger tent was discussed at the Committee of the Whole meeting two weeks ago, there was concern from some Village Board members. Chamber representatives said they could produce a letter from Snap-on Corp that expressed satisfaction with the same company the chamber is looking to hire to erect the tent. The chamber did produce that letter for the village.

Some concern lingered at first on Monday, but seemed to be relieved some when board members understood that the stakes would make smaller holes than initially thought.

In approving the stakes holes for the 180-foot tent, the village is also stipulating that the hole filling by the tent company after the festival must be done to the satisfaction of the village Public Works Department.

“I think we would be all right as long as we have someone from public works watch them work,” said village President Howard Skinner.

The board unanimously approved a letter granting various permissions relating to Libertyfest, including the tent. Trustees Aaron Karow and Jeremy Knoll were absent.

Chamber director Marilyn Trongeau said Monday that the current thinking is to keep Librertyfest as a two-day event, as it has been for the last few years. Returning to a three-day format had been considered as recently as earlier this month.
