music notes-sxc-Robert Proksa_optThe Central High School Performing Arts Department will conduct its first Middle School Honors Band and Choir Festival on Wednesday, Jan. 14.

Approximately 100 middle school students from the CHS feeder schools will work with Adam Scheele, CHS Band Director, and Rob Clark, CHS Choral Director, to enhance their musical skills and gain exposure to advanced learning opportunities.

“It will be a day of learning and performing fun and exciting music,” Scheele said. “This festival will allow the students to have a musical experience that will be outside their normal classroom and they have the opportunity to perform with peers from the different school districts. It also provides the chance to build a rapport with the students before they enter high school.”

Choral Director, Rob Clark, said “This event is our way to continue to educate and mold the students at the middle school level into the best musicians they can be. Each time one is exposed to different musical experiences, one grows. This festival allows both the instrumentalists and vocalists to work collectively to enhance their musical abilities. This can be a great recruiting venue as well.”

The day will conclude with a performance by the students at 7 p.m. in the CHS cafetorium. The performance is free and open to the public.
