State Rep. Samantha Kerkman (R-Salem) officially began her eighth term in the Wisconsin Assembly Monday when she was sworn in as the State Representative for the 61st Wisconsin Assembly District.  This marks the start of the 102nd Legislature in which Rep. Kerkman is the longest-serving Republican woman Assembly member and fifth longest-serving Assembly member overall.

“I look forward to building on the successes of the past years and remain committed to promoting a strong business climate, and continuing my work on reducing fraud and waste,” said Kerkman.

Kerkman will again serve as Co-Chair of the Joint Legislative Audit Committee, a position she also held in the last two legislative sessions.  She is also a member of the Ways and Means, Judiciary, Children and Families, and Interstate Affairs committees.

Kerkman said in addition to a strong business climate and reducing fraud and waste, her priorities for this session include working with her colleagues on the Joint Audit Committee to pass legislation that reaffirms the Legislative Audit Bureau’s authority to review state agency documents, and passing a safe sleep bill that prohibits intoxicated or impaired co-sleeping with infants and young children.

The State Legislature is comprised of 33 members in the State Senate and 99 members in the State Assembly.
