The following press release is from state Rep. Samantha Kerkman:

Representative Samantha Kerkman (R-Salem) was unanimously elected today by the Assembly Republican Caucus to serve as Caucus Sergeant-at-Arms for the 2015-2016 Legislative Session.  In her third term as Caucus Sergeant-at-Arms, Kerkman will be serving the largest Assembly Republican Majority since 1957:  63 members, including 18 newly-elected members. “Representative Kerkman is a conscientious Legislator who brings a high level of service to her constituents and the Sergeant-at-Arms position,” said Assembly Judiciary Committee Chair Jim Ott.  “I have come to depend on her insight, knowledge of legislative history and dedication to working through challenging matters on the committee and am pleased to have her again bring those qualities to a leadership role.” “I am excited to have the opportunity to work with our leadership team in the upcoming session and to serve my colleagues as we work together on the Assembly Republican Forward Agenda. The position of Caucus Sergeant-at-Arms is a leadership role within the caucus. Some of the responsibilities of the Sergeant-at-Arms include supervising coming and going of all persons to and from caucus, coordinating distributions and the practical needs of members during caucus meetings, mentoring new legislators, and supporting the other caucus leaders and helping develop priorities. This will be Rep. Kerkman’s eighth term in the State Assembly. In the 2013-2014 Legislative Session, she served as Co-Chair of the Joint Legislative Audit Committee, Vice-Chair of the Ways and Means Committee, and a member of the Children and Families Committee and the Judiciary Committee.
