On Sunday, Oct. 12 from 3-6 pm, a 2nd benefit fundraiser is scheduled to assist A Dog for Troy.

A Dog for Troy is an effort to help 11 year old Troy and his family raise funds for a psychiatric service dog. The event will be held at Coins Sports Bar in Kenosha, which is located at 1714 52nd St.

Troy lives in Burlington on a small farm with his adoptive mom and siblings – a sister, 15, and younger brother, 8. All three entered foster care in 2007 and were adopted in November 2009. Both Troy and his sister suffer from chronic Post Traumatic Stress Disorder as a result of severe abuse and trauma before being placed in foster care. Troy suffers from night terrors, flashbacks, depression and struggles with appropriate behaviors because of the trauma and PTSD.

Troy’s family is working with Canines 4 Hope in Florida to have a psychiatric service dog trained for Troy. The service dog will not only provide Troy with comfort, but will assist him when he is struggling with flashbacks and reminders of his past.

Tickets for the event are $7 and include food and drink. Additional activities include several raffles, silent auction, bake sale and more. Monetary donations are also accepted at: http://www.youcaring.com/other/a-dog-for-troy/180439. Donations are also accepted at any Educators Credit Union location. Please reference the A Dog for Troy account.

In addition to attending the event, people can also volunteer at the event or donate items for the raffles, bake sale and silent auction. Please call/email Rose Skora if you have questions about the benefit or would like to make donations or volunteer at rose.skora@yahoo.com or 262-806-7175.
