The Twin Lakes Police Department will participate in the eighth National Pharmaceutical Take Back Initiative on Saturday, Sept. 27.

The TLPD is one of six locations in Kenosha County that has a Medication Drop Box. Twin Lakes’ box is available 24/7, located in the lobby of the Police Department located at 920 Lance Drive in Twin Lakes.

Between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., on Sept. 27, TLPD will have a volunteer and an officer in the parking lot to accept the medications to make it easier for residents not have to exit their vehicle.

On Saturday, September 27, the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) will coordinate the eighth National Pharmaceutical Take Back Initiative. Like the seven previous collection efforts, this is a collaborative effort with state and local law enforcement agencies focused on removing potentially dangerous pharmaceutical controlled substances from our nation’s medicine cabinets.

This one-day effort will continue to bring national focus to the issue of pharmaceutical controlled substance abuse. This is a great opportunity for those who missed the previous events, or who have subsequently accumulated unwanted, unused prescription drugs, to safely dispose of those medications.

Controlled, non-controlled, and over-the-counter substances may be collected. The general public is often unaware of the distinction in medication status. Also included is pet medication, ointments and creams.

For Wisconsin participants, liquids will continue be accepted during this initiative. However, the liquids must be in their original packaging and evenly distributed within the boxes of collected solid prescription medications. No drums/containers of liquids without the original packaging will be accepted. Additionally, inhalers and needles/sharps will not be accepted.
