Seth Bayles performs helicopter ball drop at Paddock Golf Outing

The Westosha Kiwanis Club had a special guest to perform its helicopter ball drop Friday at the Tom Paddock Memorial Golf Outing.

The outing, which has been going on for 12 years and is in its second year of being named for longtime Kiwanian Paddock, benefits the club’s community service projects and Make a Wish. Make-A-Wish grants the wishes of a children diagnosed with life-threatening medical conditions.

This year, Seth Bayles, 13, of Bristol performed the helicopter ball drop, a game where the ball that ends up in the hole or closest to the hole wins. Bayles, who has autoimmune disease, will be taking a Make a Wish organized 13-day motorhome family trip to the Grand Canyon later this month.

“It was really great that we had a Make a Wish kid to do the drop this year,” said Steve Bleumel of Westosha Kiwanis.

Here is a some video of Seth performing the drop at Bristol Oaks, with the help of John Parrish, pilot for Midwestern Helicopter of Kenosha:

With his feet back on the ground, Seth summed up the expereince. “That was awesome,” he said.

For more information about Seth, read Julie Bayles’ speech she gave at the outing’s dinner, which explains Seth’s situation more eloquently than I could ever hope to.
