A benefit fundraiser is scheduled for Sunday, Aug. 24 from 2-5 p.m., to assist A Dog for Troy. A Dog for Troy is an effort to help 11 year old Troy and his family raise funds for a psychiatric service dog.
Troy lives in Burlington on a small farm with his adoptive mom and siblings – a sister, 15 and younger brother, 7. All three entered foster care in 2007 and were adopted in November 2009. Both Troy and his sister suffer from chronic Post Traumatic Stress Disorder as a result of severe abuse and trauma before being placed in foster care. Troy suffers from night terrors, flashbacks, depression and struggles with appropriate behaviors because of the trauma and PTSD.
Troy’s family is working with Canines 4 Hope in Florida to have the psychiatric service dog trained for Troy. The service dog will not only provide Troy with comfort, but will assist him when he is struggling with flashbacks and reminders of his past. This family friendly event will include children’s games, raffles, silent auction, dog demonstration, a farmers market and more. Fun for the entire family. Monetary donations are also accepted at: http://www.youcaring.com/other/a-dog-for-troy/180439
In addition to attending the event, people can also volunteer at the event or donate items for the silent auction. Please call/email Rose Skora if you have questions about the benefit or would like to make donations or volunteer at firstname.lastname@example.org or 262-806-7175.
