Silver Lake FD puts second engine back in service

silver-lake-fd-doorThe Silver Lake Fire Department has its second engine back in service, SLFD Chief Dave Kordecki announced late Tuesday.

New tires were installed on the engine Tuesday.

That means the department now has new tires on both engines and the department’s tender (tanker) truck.

The engine restored to service Tuesday is the department’s second due engine and is also the department’s mutual aid engine, Kordecki said.

On May 21, then acting Fire Chief Roger Pattie said he was taking all of the department’s the trucks out of service because of the age of the tires. He cited standards that would have called for the tires to have been replaced at least once by now. The old tires, regardless of mileage or outward condition, made the trucks unsafe to operate, Pattie said. The tires had not been changed since the equipment was purchased after a 1997 fire destroyed the firehouse and most of the equipment inside.

A set of tires for the other engine and the tender truck were already replaced in early June. At that time, the plan was to wait on any further tire replacement until 2015.

But Kordecki, who was just appointed chief June 16, said he felt there was enough money in the department budget to buy the tires for the second engine now.

Good move. Note to Roger Johnson(guess the tires really DID need replacing).
ditto Cindy Tanski. Now that we just “squeezed” Bradford Contractors for $19,000, let’s use that money to upgrade the rest of our fleet! How ’bout it?

What is our new fire chiefs’ plan to STAFF those fire trucks? What has changed since his arrival?

  3. to confused citizen says:

Yes there has been change for the worst not the better. Still can not guarantee a response.

@to confused citizen: Well then….to quote Yogi Berra: “It looks like DEJA VU all over again”!!!!!

Have you seen our new leaders Facebook posting hammering some of the fire department members? It’s downright brutal. I remember “The Queen” specifically mandating that all derogatory comments regarding village employees being made on social media was to STOP, and that employees would be punished if they continued to post negative comments. Chief McFarlane even ordered his members to cease and desist, if in fact they were posting negative comments, But alas, I guess I forgot, our new “fire chief” is “not a village employee”, so the rules don’t apply to him. And he keeps mentioning our neighboring fire department’s Chief(the guy that fully supported him). What is up with that fascination?

Sorry you don’t like the new fire chief. Perhaps you should have suggested someone for the position? Oh, that’s right,,,,,, you did suggest someone. A wet behind the ears “LEVEL 1” candidate. Sad for all the belly aching and crying you and Super Fire Fighter GG do…… that’s the best you could come up with? Thanks for the laugh….you sure brighten up my day.

  7. Bernard Punsley says:

@No Bullets for Bernie: Did you read the Facebook posting or NOT? I’ll stand by my comments. Haven’t heard from MR.K. yet.

  8. Bernard Punsley says:

@No Bullets for Bernie: Our new fire chief(I use that term loosely!) was supposedly “impartial, no community ties, will not act on someone else’s agenda”….blah blah blah. Roger Johnson and the Queen made that perfectly clear. So go read his Facebook postings and ask yourself just how “impartial” he really is. Score another “coup” for SLRS….they continue to be the “tail that wags the dog”. The clincher will be when our new leader is seen wearing the coveted “red jacket”. As for brightening up your day, my pleasure. It’s what I do.
As for the candidate Silver Lake firefighters VOTED to be their leader, I will put her honesty, integrity and DEDICATION up against ANY candidate. Remember, she was not even given the opportunity for the position, NO Silver Lake FD members were. Read the postings folks, decide for yourselves. “No Bullets for Bernie” keeps shooting blanks. Try not to drool on your red jacket.

  9. Bernard Punsley says:

@No Bullets for Bernie”…..ah….how can I put this delicately….your “FARKLE FACTOR” keeps kicking in.

  10. FARKLE FACTOR says:

@Bernard Punsley: I RESEMBLE that remark! And I wear my hi-visibility safety vest over my red jacket at ALL TIMES. If that bothers you, tough.

To quote the late Gomer Pyle “Shazaammmm….golly…SURPRISE SURPRISE SURPRISE!!! Our “fire chief” claims folks were picking on him via social media….ah…..have any of your foks seen the stuff HE posted on HIS social media sights? Downright brutal stuff. Read it and judge for yourself. SLFD “didn’t give him a fair chance”. REALLY? He advises we should “shut down the SLFD and start from scratch”? Dissolving and joining up with Salem Fire/Rescue will fit into that just fine.

  12. No Bullets for Bernie says:

Careful what you wish for………….. should we expect the “fire fighters” choice to appear soon to accept the position? Should be interesting….. never had someone that unqualified as our chief. It might just be crazy enough to work!!!!!!!!!!

  13. Bernard Punsley says:

@No Bullets for Bernie: Umm…..I wasn’t aware the village had ANY requirements for the fire chief position. Care to enlighten me as to what they are? I can’t seem to find them anywhere. Advise.

“I wasn’t aware the village had ANY requirements for the fire chief position”,,,,,,,,,and we wonder why we can’t attract anyone qualified to come work in Silver Lake.
