The Wisconsin Attorney General’s office made the following announcement regarding Wisconsin Electric Power Company’s electric generation plant in Paris:
Attorney General J. B. Van Hollen has announced that his office has obtained a judgment against Wisconsin Electric Power Company regarding air pollution violations at their Town of Paris, Kenosha County, electric generation plant. The civil complaint filed in the circuit court of Kenosha County alleges the company replaced design blades on two turbine units, which under Wisconsin air pollution regulations constituted a major modification with a potential impact on air contaminant emissions. Stack tests conducted in June of 2012 indicated that at that time nitrogen oxide emissions from each of the two modified units were out of compliance with applicable legal limits. The judgment requires Wisconsin Electric Power to pay $50,000 in statutory forfeitures and penalties. The facility is currently in compliance with Wisconsin air pollution laws. The Judgment was signed by Judge Bruce E. Schroeder of Kenosha County Circuit Court on May 19, 2014. The case was prosecuted by Assistant Attorney General Cynthia Hirsch.
