Bruce “Ticker” A. Schaal, 63, of Powers Lake, known for his work in local fire and rescue and as a local business leader, died today at the age of 63.
Schaal was a lifetime member of the Twin Lakes Fire Department and Rescue Squad as well as one of the organizers of the Randall Fire Department. He served in several capacities in the Randall department, including chief. He was department treasurer at the time of his death. He was also a scuba diver serving as a member of both the Randall FD and county dive teams. Schaal battled back from very serious injuries in 1998 when he was struck by a boat while diving on Powers Lake.
Schaal was a banker in Twin Lakes for 35 years and also served as president of the Twin Lakes Chamber and Business Association in the 1980s.
At St. John’s Ev. Lutheran Church in Slades Corners, Schaal served on the church council, the stewardship committee and was an usher. He currently was a member of the Randall Ethics Committee.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, April 26, at St. John’s Ev. Lutheran Church 39506 60th St. Slades Corners. Inurnment will be in St. John’s Cemetery. The Schaal Family will receive friends from 4 to 8 p.m., Friday at the Haase-Lockwood & Assoc. Funeral Home and Crematory in Twin Lakes and from 10 a.m. until the time of services at the church on Saturday.
