Suicide Prevention Coalition to host clergy summit

The Kenosha County Division of Health- Suicide Prevention Coalition will host the spiritual leaders of the community at the free Clergy Summit II on Thursday, Feb. 27.

The summit includes panel discussions, information sessions and a resource fair. This event is for anyone who has an interest in learning how to address members of their congregation that may be struggling with different issues.

Clergy Summit attendees will participate in:

  • Out & About in our community, panel discussion lead by the LGBT Center of SE WI, UW-Parkside LGBT Center, Bradford Community Church Unitarian Universalist.
  • Clergy response to suicidal persons and their family members lead by Dr. David Clark, PhD, Assistant Dean for Clinical Research, MCW, and Director of Human Research Protections Program, MCW and FMLH.
  • Small group discussions .
  • AODA Panel Discussion lead by Hope Council on Alcohol and Other Drug Abuse and Professional Services Group/Community Impact Programs .
  • When do you call Crisis or the Police? lead by Kenosha Human Development Services-Crisis Intervention and Kenosha Police Department.
  • Resource fair with community agencies providing literature on services offered and agency representative will also be available to answer questions.

This summit is designed to increase the proportion of spiritual leaders in our community who have received training in identification of and response to the difficult issues their congregation are facing. Each participant will leave with resources that are available in our community.

  1. as the numbers of suicide deaths increase, more awareness programs are popping up – I hope these programs work to curve people to help.
