The Westosha Conference girls softball tournament was played at Central High School on Sept. 30.
The Randall Wildcats played the Salem Falcons during the first game and came out with a 4-3 victory. On the other diamond, Raymond defeated Riverview 14-0 to advance to the Conference Championship game.
After opening up the championship game with a 3-run first inning, the Randall Wildcats allowed the Raymond Panthers right back in it with 2 runs of their own. The rest of the game was tightly contested until the top of the 7th inning, when the Wildcats scored 4 more runs. After a shaky start defensively, Randall buckled down and only allowed 2 more runs after the first inning, while they tacked on another 8 runs and with the ending score being 11-4.
Randall’s Montana Platts went 3-4, with 2 HRs and 6 RBIs. Randall’s Sydney Helmuth also had a picture perfect hit along the third baseline to drive in 2 runs during the game. Sydney Grossi and Kayla Kerkman both tossed a brilliant game against some of the best hitters they have faced all season. Both pitchers kept the game under control the entire time and walked the least amount of hitters they’ve allowed all season. Ella Parisi was the ace in the outfield, gobbling up three monster hits with ease. Each player either contributed with a timely hit or great defense to help the Wildcats come out on top.
The Panthers’ starting pitcher, Eva Ballew and second baseman Becca Borowski gave the Wildcats a run for their money with some great pitching and clutch infield plays.
In the consolation game, Salem defeated Riverview.
