A grant that will help the county expand KD Park with a land purchase received final approval Monday, state Rep. Samantha Kerkman announced

The grant was part of the Knowles-Nelson Stewardship Program.

From a statement release by Kerkman’s office:

The Legislature’s Joint Finance Committee approved a Stewardship Fund grant in the amount of $265,000 for the park expansion project that will add 96.38 acres of the former Powers Lake Construction Company property to Kenosha County’s 245-acre KD Park. The County initially made application for the grant last spring.  This past summer, Rep. Samantha Kerkman, County Executive Jim Kreuser, and Park Operations General Manager Jon Rudie hosted a visit by DNR Secretary Cathy Stepp to the park and presented the planned acquisition first-hand. Said Rep. Kerkman, “It has been a pleasure to continue the cooperative tradition between state and local leaders that has been a part of this project since its beginning.  With this expansion, western Kenosha County families are provided an even greater opportunity to enjoy outdoor recreation.” County Executive Jim Kreuser said, “KD Park and now this added acreage will be a wonderful addition to the quality of life in Kenosha County, particularly for western county residents. We appreciate the work by Rep. Kerkman and DNR Secretary Cathy Stepp to make this improvement possible.” KD Park borders Randall and Wheatland.  County Supervisor Dennis Elverman who represents the park area, thanked Rep. Kerkman for her assistance.  “Having been on the park’s original land-acquisition team, the expansion is near and dear to my heart as I know it is to Rep. Kerkman.  It would have been a much more difficult road without her help.”

I’m really looking forward to watching the development of this park, and really can’t wait to enjoy it as well.
