Key Club Plans Relay for Life

Students from Wilmot High School are used to pulling all-nighters. But instead of studying for tests, this all-nighter will kick off summer vacation.

For the first time, Key Club members will team up to hold a Relay for Life to fight cancer. The event will begin at 6 p.m. June 11 at the school’s track and will run all night until 6 a.m. the next morning.

The walk/run will be held to raise funds for the American Cancer Society, which uses the money for cancer research, education and prevention programs and patient services. Key Club Adviser Marlene Tilsner is hoping it will bring together people of all ages in the Wilmot area, not only to unite in a noble cause, but have fun doing it. Among the highlights is the survivors lap and the luminaria ceremony. People can purchase bags with glow sticks in honor of people who have been touched by cancer.

“We hope to line the whole track with them,” Tilsner said. “We are also planning to raffle off a Green Bay Packer football that was signed by the 2008 team, have some bands perform and other activities. It will be like a giant slumber party.”

Those interested in donating to the event or in signing up for one of the teams are asked to visit. www.relayforlife.org/wilmoths
